1.) THE FRENCH REVOLUTION :-
- 1789 : The French Revolution takes place and the Bourbon dynasty is overthrown
- 1790 - 1800 : French armies moved in countries like Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and much of Italy.
- 1799 : Napoleon took over the government of France
- May 1804 : Napoleon became the emperor of France.
- 1804 : The Civil code of 1804 was introduced
- 1807 : The Civil code of 1804 was renamed to 'Napoleonic code' in honor of Napoleon.
- 1813 : Napoleon lost the battle of Leipzig
- 1815 : 1.) Napoleon lost the Battle of Waterloo which ended his rule over France
2.) The Treaty of Vienna was signed by Britain, Austria, Prussia and Russia.
- 1834 : A customs union (Zollverein) was formed by the iniative of Prussia and most of the German states.
2.) GIUSEPPE MAZZINI :-
- 1807 : Giuseppe Mazzini was born in Genoa.
- 1831 : He was sent into exile for attempting a failed revolution in Liguria.
- 1831 : He founded the secret society of 'Young Italy' in Marseille
- 1833 : He founded the secret society of 'Young Europe' in Berne.
3.) THE AGE OF REVOLUTIONS (1830 - 1848) :-
- July 1830 : The Bourbon dynasty was again overthrown in France and Louis Philippe became the head of France.
- 1821 : Greek war of Independence against the Ottoman Empire begins
- 1824 : English poet Lord Byron who supported Greece during the war dies of fever.
- 1831 : In Poland, an armed rebellion against the Russian rule took place which was crushed.
- 1832 : The Treaty of Constantinople is signed recognizing Greece as an Independent nation.
- 4 June 1845 : The weavers in Silesia has led a revolt against contractors
- 1848 : Due to Food shortages and Unemployment people in Paris (France) began to protest which made Louis Philippe flee. This made France a republic.
- 18 May 1848 : An attempt to unify Germany convened in the Church of St. Paul.
- 1867 : The Hungarians within the Hapsburg empire received more autonomy.
4.) UNIFICATION OF GERMANY (1866 - 1871) :-
- 1866 : War took place between Prussia and Austria to free some of the German states.
- 1871 : South German states join to form the German Empire.
- 1871 : War took place between France and Prussia to free some of the German states.
- 18 January 1871 : Kaiser William I of Prussia was proclaimed the Emperor of Germany at the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles, France.
5.) UNIFICATION OF ITALY (1859 - 1860 & 1870):-
- 1831 & 1848 : Failed attempts by Giuseppe Mazzini to unify Italy.
- 1859 : Chief Minister Cavour from Sardinia-Piedmont defeated the Austrians and freed Northern Italy.
- 1860 : Giuseppe Garibaldi drove out the Bourbon kings of Spain in Southern Italy & Unified it with Italy.
- 1861 : Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia-Piedmont became the king of united Italy.
- 1867 : Giuseppe Garibaldi led an army to unify the Papal states with Italy.
- 1870 : The Papal states were joined to Italy.
6.) GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI (1807 - 1882) :-
- 1833 : He met Mazzini and joined 'Young Italy'
- 1834 : He participated in a republican uprising in Piedmont
- 1834 - 1848 : He lived in exile in South America
- 1854 : He supported Victor Emmanuel II in his efforts to unify Italy.
- 1860 : He led the 'Red shirts' army to South Italy.
- 1867 : He led an army of volunteers to central Italy
7.) FORMATION OF GREAT BRITAIN :-
- 1688 : The English parliament seized power from the monarchy in England.
- 1707 : The Act of Union between Scotland and England from the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
- 1798 : Wolfe Tone and his United Irishmen led a failed revolt against the English.
- 1801 : Ireland was forcibly incorporated into the United Kingdom.
- 1914 : Tensions in Europe led to the First world war in 1914.
8.) THE GRIMM BROTHERS (PG 15) :-
- 1785 : Jacob Grimm was born
- 1786 : Wilhelm Grimm was born.
- 1812 : They published their first collection of tales
